Find the message in seconds.
Email activity lists every email you send and receive, newest first. Filter by sent or received, open a message to see its sender, recipients, subject and text, and check the status of each recipient separately.
Store the message ID that the API returns next to your own order, user or ticket. Then you can jump from your system straight to the right message, or fetch its status with GET /api/v1/emails/:id.
What each status means.
Queued means Mailumi accepted the message and is handing it to the mail network; scheduled messages wait until their send time. Sent means it left Mailumi. Delivered means the recipient’s mail server accepted it. Bounced means the address does not exist or refused the message, and complained means the recipient marked it as spam. Failed means it could not be sent, and the reason is shown.
Delivered is the strongest signal any email service can give: it confirms the receiving server took the message. Whether it lands in the inbox or the spam folder depends on authentication, content and sender reputation, which is why domain verification matters.
Fix problems without duplicates.
If a request timed out, retry it with the same Idempotency-Key and Mailumi returns the original result instead of sending again. Addresses that hard-bounce or mark your email as spam are added to your suppression list automatically, so later sends skip them and protect your sender reputation.
Watch for patterns: several bounces from one sign-up form usually point to typos or fake addresses, and a sudden drop in delivered messages often follows a DNS change. Email activity makes both visible quickly.
Delivery statuses
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Queued or scheduled | Mailumi accepted the message and will send it now or at the scheduled time | Nothing; a scheduled email can still be canceled |
| Sent | The message left Mailumi for the recipient’s mail server | Nothing; the next status follows shortly |
| Delivered | The recipient’s mail server accepted it | If the recipient cannot find it, ask them to check spam |
| Delivery delayed | The receiving server is temporarily refusing it; delivery is retried | Wait; it becomes delivered or bounced |
| Bounced | The address does not exist or rejected the message | Correct or remove the address |
| Complained | The recipient marked the email as spam | Stop emailing this address |
| Failed | The message could not be sent | Read the reason, fix it and send again |
| Received | An incoming email arrived on your domain | Process it through your webhook |
Email delivery tracking: common questions
- Does delivered mean the email was opened?
- No. Delivered means the recipient’s mail server accepted the message. Turn on open and click tracking for a domain to record opens and clicks as separate events; both are off by default.
- Can I see the content of an email I sent?
- Yes. Open the message in Email activity to see its subject, recipients and text. Message content is encrypted at rest.
- Can I get delivery statuses through the API?
- Yes. GET /api/v1/emails lists your messages and GET /api/v1/emails/:id returns one message with the status of every recipient. Both need an API key with the email:read permission.
- Why did my email go to spam?
- Common causes are a domain without DKIM or DMARC, a brand-new domain with no sending history, or content that looks promotional. Verify all records on the Domains page and keep transactional emails short and clear.
