One plan instead of two.
Mailchimp Transactional costs $20 per block of 25,000 emails, with lower block prices from 500,000 emails a month. It is sold only as an add-on to a Mailchimp Standard or Premium plan, and Standard starts at $20 a month for 500 contacts. Unused emails in a block do not carry over to the next month.
That puts the smallest Mailchimp setup at $40 a month for up to 25,000 emails, $60 for 50,000 and $220 for 250,000. Mailumi Pro includes 50,000 emails for $20 and Scale includes 250,000 for $80, with no second plan to keep active. Mailumi Free sends 1,500 emails a month at no cost, while Mailchimp gives new Transactional users up to 500 free emails to try it.
Campaigns without paying per contact.
Mailchimp prices its marketing plans by contacts: Standard costs $20 a month for 500 contacts and 6,000 sends, $45 for 1,500 contacts and $60 for 2,500. Mailumi includes Campaigns in every plan, each audience holds up to 100,000 contacts, and campaign emails use the same monthly allowance as your API emails.
Mailchimp offers far more for marketers: automation flows, predictive segments, popup forms, SMS and over 300 integrations. Mailumi Campaigns cover what product teams send most, such as product updates, newsletters and announcements, with CSV import, templates with {{variables}}, an unsubscribe link and one-click unsubscribe headers in every campaign.
Made for the way developers work.
Mailchimp Transactional sends with a JSON POST to messages/send, with the API key inside the request body and the sender split into from_email and from_name. Mailumi takes from, to, subject and html or text, with the API key as a Bearer token. Keys can be limited to one domain, given only the permissions they need and set to expire.
Both receive email on a domain or subdomain and post it to your webhook. Mailchimp collects inbound messages and posts them in batches, roughly once a minute. Mailumi sends a signed webhook for each received email and retries automatically when your endpoint is down.
Where your data lives differs too. Mailchimp’s servers are in the United States. Mailumi stores account data, email history and content in the EU, and sends through Amazon SES in Ireland.
